   Today there are 323,341,000 people living in the U.S.. In 1776 when the Declaration of Independence was signed, there were 2.5 million people in the new nation.    Approximately 41.5 million Americans will spend the holiday at someone else's home.   The Fourth was not declared a national holiday until 1941.    700 million pounds of chicken are purchased for 4th of July celebrations.
